2012 Integral Fellows Nominee: BURN Design Lab
2012 Integral Fellows Nominee: BURN Design Lab
Bob Powell is a pioneer in developing designs and manufacturing processes for clean burning cook stoves (he co-founded the Lab) and drives the design process, testing, and manufacturing processes. Bob believes the best solution is to design an ideal stove for a particular country or region based on local fuel sources and cultural cooking practices, and then build the stoves where they will be used. Under his direction, the Lab is mounting the only large-scale effort to build and manage localized industrial stove facilities.
About BURN Design Lab
Our approach: BURN does not promote a single technology or design. Instead we begin by working with local cooks in each selected country to establish critical design parameters. We then develop a series of prototypes at our state-of-the-art stove prototyping facility that maximize combustion and heat transfer while maintaining key user criteria. These prototypes are then improved based on focus group feedback and field testing results. After the initial design process, we then develop the required manufacturing equipment and processes to mass produce stoves in each selected country.

We do Philanthropy
The Integral Fellows program recognizes outstanding, meaningful alumni contributions to the daily lives of others on a local, national, or global level. We are excited to support our 2012 Integral Fellow Nominees through this 48-Hour Matching Campaign. The matching fund is made possible by generous donations from alumni and other supporters of the Microsoft Alumni Foundation (MSAF). Only gifts from members will be matched, so click here to join.
MSAF is the home for information about, opportunities with, and connections to the philanthropic activities of the Microsoft alumni community and is a 501(c)(3) organization.
